What is Biological Dentistry?

Biological dentistry can be seen as a new approach to oral health. It recognizes the relationship between the mouth and the rest of the body. It seeks to identify the root cause of a patient's symptoms by considering the entire body. Compared to Traditional dentistry, which follows an outdated, problem-oriented strategy that primarily focuses on individual tooth problems.

Biological Dentistry can sound like a new concept to you, but the idea has existed since the 1800s. It is also known as Holistic, integrative or biocompatible dentistry. It aims to improve and preserve an individual's overall health.

The word "biological" refers to the fact that there is life. Biological and integrative dentists use things that are either life-sustaining or improve the quality of life for their patients. Our goal is to find the root cause of the problem, not just the symptoms so that we can get and stay healthy. Therefore, we use the most compatible materials and least likely to react with your body.

Differences between Traditional Dentistry and Biological Dentistry

Biological Dentistry uses an integrative approach and knows that the mouth is the mirror of an individual's health. Biological dentists are trained in alternative therapeutic methods such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Ayurveda, herbology, homeopathy, energy medicine, and dental toxicology. They might be general dentists, periodontists, oral surgeons, or orthodontists.

Traditional dentistry uses materials that can be harmful or reactive to the patient. Biological dentists use biocompatibility tests to determine which dental materials are safe for the patient. It is essential to know that some dental materials can weaken the immune system or make the body more toxic.

Mercury fillings were prohibited in Norway and Sweden in 2008 and 2009 due to their harmful effects, and since the 1970s in Russia. Biological dentists recognize the need to carefully remove mercury fillings and properly prepare patients to reduce mercury vapor exposure and toxicity.

Benefits of Biological Dentistry

· Biological dentists recommend different products that can help mineralize the tooth structure without fluoride's side effects on the body.

· Biological dentists recommend Zirconia implants, a natural, metal-free material that delivers optimal biocompatibility and immunocompatibility. In addition, zirconium oxide is non-conductive, non-allergenic, and non-sensitizing.

·  A biological, integrative dentist provides recommendations for nutrition that will stimulate your own body to heal and restore.

· Diagnostics in Biological dentistry use technology to detect an infection. A Cone Bean image allows the dentist to evaluate a 3D view of what can be hidden on regular X-rays. They also use a phase-contrast microscope to assess the kind of bacteria present in your mouth. The treatment plan changes according to the bacterial activity in your mouth.

· Biological dentists use ozone therapy as a safe, natural technique to reduce infection and inflammation. In addition, it is an excellent preventative treatment that can help a patient avoid the need for a root canal.

· It can assist in correcting dental and jaw dysfunction-related biting issues. The effects of bites may manifest as muscle strains that change the blood flow to the brain, causing toxins to build and subsequently creating cognitive decline concerns.

· It can help you detect the possibility of sleep apnea or TMJ disorders with non-invasive treatments.

Now that you know more about biological dentistry, it's time to choose a holistic dentist in your area!
